2. I tell you a letter.
3. Think of 5 (or more if you want) book or movie characters and post their names and your comments on these characters in your LJ.

I have been commanded by [livejournal.com profile] helviti to use the letter "C".

1) Clarisse McClellan, Fahrenheit 451 (Ray Bradbury)-- I'm actually kind of torn when it comes to Clarisse. On one hand, I recognize her importance in terms of plot; how talking with her begins to awaken Montag's own seeking nature, and how her death/disappearance hammers home the dystopian nature of life in the book's future-world. But I just can't shake the creeped-out feeling I get with her. She's not a favorite, but I like her.

2) Cho Chang, the Harry Potter series (J.K. Rowling)-- Another young woman that I get conflicted about! On the surface, I see her as very annoying; at times, she comes across as downright manipulative to me (generally, I get the feeling that she is using Harry as a substitute for Cedric, who is the one who really has her heart, and not thinking of Harry's feelings at all). However, if I try to get into her head and analyze her reactions from an emotional standpoint, instead of Harry's own distant viewpoint, she makes more sense. She's a person dealing with grief and loss, and she's been knocked off-kilter by it. Even though I'd probably not like her if I had to come face-to-face with her, I don't like Cho-bashers who diss her in fanfic.

3) Charles Zim, Starship Troopers (Robert Heinlein)-- One of my favorite characters in the book. Zim starts out as a drill sergeant, but when push comes to shove, he takes a demotion to Private and fights beside the men he helped train. (The fact that his last name is the same as "Invader Zim" is just something that amused the heck out of me.)

4) Clarence J. Boddicker, RoboCop -- Clarence is one of many "bad guys" in this movie, and I see him as an equal to Dick Jones, the corrupted senior officer of OCP. He's similarly ruthless but more violent and bloody -- he is more honest about his villainy than Dick Jones, for one -- and yet, he looks like a freakin' librarian! The fact that he's played by Kurtwood Smith just makes it all the better. Of all the criminals, I like him best, mostly because he never pretends to be anything else and seems to take such pleasure in being bad.

5) Claudia Kishi, The Baby-Sitters Club series (Ann M. Martin and others)-- Claudia is an artistic and fashion-conscious teen, the only non-white girl of the original four members, constantly described as exotic...and even though her personality was and is a mirror of my own, she was my favorite. I liked that she had conflict with her family (her parents disapproved of Nancy Drew books and candy, which she hid all over her room; she clashed with her more bookish and ambitious older sister, Janine) and dealt with serious things like a death in her family (and, in a later book, racism). Claudia always struck me as a smart girl with an unorthodox focus. While she had an above-average intelligence, she was horrible at spelling and disliked school -- she even got sent back a grade in the middle of the school year. Also, I was tempted to try out her wild and crazy theme outfits -- particularly the Miss-Frizzle-esque "under the sea" dress!
