Peace Offering

"Talk to him," Cass said sharply.

Jason refused to look up from the grapple gun he was fixing. He grumbled, "Why should I?"

Cass put a hand over Jason's, stopping him in the middle of pulling out parts. "Talk."

He looked up at her then, mouth pulled into a thin-lipped, annoyed expression. Mimicking her tone, he retorted, "Elaborate."

"He knows something. Suspects something. About Bruce."

"Bruce is dead."

"Tim doesn't think so," Cass argues. "If he is wrong, you will be the one to help show him he's wrong. If he's right, that means you helped get Bruce back. Either way..."

Jason looks thoughtful, tapping the needlenose pliers against his chin (leaving a little smear of machine oil behind). The annoyed twist of his mouth melts into a smirk. "Either way, I'm set to 'win'."

Cass lifts a hand, tilting her head, a gesture meant to convey 'well, there you go...'

"See, I think... you don't get it, babe." Jason reaches out and takes her hand, pulling her closer to him, then turning over her hand so he can kiss her palm. "I've got you. I already win with what matters."

An old ficlet that I couldn't extend, and I figured I ought to post it.

Title: Pledge
Author: D.L.SchizoAuthoress
Rating: PG
Spoilers: None
Warnings: Possible slight OOC-ness
Notes: So I tried to do another series of "Where Your Heart Is", but only one song really inspired me (Getting Away with Murder, Papa Roach). Set sometime after drabble #8 (We Didn't Start the Fire) here but probably before #10.
Word Count: 131
Summary: Cass makes a promise to herself

I don't quite know where I'm going with this. Cass and Jason definitely need to talk, but Jason!muse is staying suspiciously quiet.

Title: Puzzle
Author: D.L.SchizoAuthoress
Rating: PG
Spoilers: set post-BftC/passing of the Batgirl mantle
Warnings: a spot of violence
Prompt: DCU, Jason Todd/Cass Cain, Bat outcasts
Word Count: 1024
Summary: Normal is a very subjective term

This story ties into the 'Where Your Heart Is' stories, as a prequel to those ficlets. Good grief, I can hardly write a drabble in the DCU without growing it into a series!

Title: Where Your Heart Is
Author: D.L.SchizoAuthoress
Rating: PG/PG-13
Spoilers: Ficlet 2 refers to events near the end of Countdown; Ficlet 7 references events that took place between 'Batman and Robin' #1 - #6.
Warnings: Cassandra Cain/Jason Todd; very short ficlets, some of which are rather vague on timeline.
Prompt: The Playlist Shuffle Fanfic Meme (rules below)
Total Word Count: 1426
Summary: Batgirl and Robin -- ♥ ...just not the ones everyone seems to expect.

Rules:
1. Pick a character, pairing, or fandom you like.
2. Turn on your music player and put it on random/shuffle.
3. Write a drabble related to each song that plays. You only have the time frame of the song to finish the drabble; you start when the song starts, and stop when it's over. No lingering afterwards! (I messed up on typing sometimes and spaced out the paragraphs. So sue me.)
4. Do ten of these, then post them.

Under this next cut are some explanations for the stories, what in the songs inspired each ficlet. I think it kinda needs this, since some of the associations are incredibly loose. It's what I get for using my "DLed from YouTube" folder instead of picking a couple CD folders.

Rating: PG
Spoilers: Nothing that I can think of. Timeline is vague.
Warnings: Gender-bender. Possible Tim-bashing (I don't think it is, but I admit he's my least favorite Robin). Insensitive jokes from a character that doesn't know better yet.
Word Count: 1082
Prompt: any, any, pretty like a girl
Summary: Maybe they were expecting him to make an ugly girl... truth is, he's not a girl at all.

Go to Chapter Four
****

(Urk. I need to reformat my tags... probably c: instead of chara:... when I'm not so sleepy.)

I hope that this chapter wasn't too confusing. Like I said, in the narration, Jason is referred to as "she" and "her" (although sharp readers will note that I tried to avoid pronoun use in places); the characters (with notable exception) are still thinking of Jason as "he" and "him".

Prompt: author's choice, author's choice/author's choice, so different, yet so similar. like two sides of the same coin
Word Count: 592
Summary: This is his body. This is not his body. Both statements are true.

More Curse!verse under the cut... )
*****

Whoa, what the hell, suddenly I'm treating the Curse!verse seriously.

This was actually my plan all along. Yeah, Dick making an ass of himself over Jason's changed gender (and Jason's eventual retaliations) is supposed to be funny, but I don't want to just be goofy or have the change not be a big deal. I'm not sure yet if Jason is cisgender (and therefore switched into the wrong kind of body) or transgender (and therefore changed into the right body)... Jason's not sure yet, and I guess I'd like to play with that.

The pronouns are tough to decide on. I know I did a switch at the end of part one, but that was part of the reveal that Jason's physical sex had changed. So far as I know at this point, Jason's gender is still male/he still identifies as a male and thus, he. For third person limited point-of-view pieces like this, and the thoughts of the characters, I think I'll stick to using he/his/him for Jason. But for third person omniscient, I will match Jason's pronouns to his physical sex and use she/hers/her. I consider it to be like the difference between calling Bruce Wayne 'Batman' or 'Bruce' depending on his appearance (or whether he's in the field).

I don't know. If y'all have any thoughts on this, feel free to share.
