Concept taken from ladydragonryder, but the rules/explanation were completely re-written by me because... *covers face with left hand and points to icon with her right*

Pick 20 examples of pop culture entertainment (anime, comics, films, literature, live action tv, music, theatre, webcomics, web original, or western animation) and post their summaries from TV Tropes: Better Than It Sounds. Have your friends guess what each one is. To those who participate: NO CHEATING!

There was at least one where I snipped off the end bit, which didn't have anything to do with describing the series itself and would have been a dead giveaway for what I was talking about. I managed to restrain my inner editor enough that I haven't fixed some spelling errors otherwise.

A few things to keep in mind regarding these guessing games when played on my LJ:
+ You win points for each correct guess. So far, the only thing points get you is bragging rights, but I might be persuaded to write fic or something.
+ You can guess for any numbered item that hasn't be crossed out.
+ Everyone who guesses something correctly wins a point. If five people say that "Summary number 23 is obviously for 'The Number 23'," or what have you, each of those five people get a point for that.

To get control of her father's company back from a Corrupt Corporate Executive, a Mad Scientists Beautiful Daughter becomes a pink-haired Idol Singer, and her younger biological and adopted sisters become her back-up band. They all deal with a crush from the Idol Singer's boyfriend, the annoying punk band that the Corrupt Corporate Executive hired, and everyone's gigantic crazy hair. I was expecting denisia to get this one, but aaronunicorn also knowing it was a bit of a surprise. JEM!

2. Anonymous child soldiers battle tyrants and criminals on a shoestring budget.

3. A nerd and a popular guy try to commit the perfect murder. They fail. Miserably. There's enough homoerotic tension to make up for it. I knew I could count on relentlessfire to correctly identify Murder by Numbers.

4. A guy and his best friend bond over practical jokes and extreme sports. They conflict over a Love Triangle. Girl uses cancer to get the attention of her Love Interest.

5. A Fiery Redhead Action Girl, her blonde male sidekick, and a Voice With An Internet Connection fight a hot woman with long black hair. (Sorry, Aaron, it's not what you think.)

6. Small, ragtag band of heroes search the oceans for ancient treasures that are needed to stop an all-consuming black sludge from devouring the world. aaronunicorn gets this one right! It's the Pirates of Dark Water!

7. A group of oddball college graduates go to New York to bring their college stage play to Broadway. denisia's and aaronunicorn's Henson-sensors can't be fooled by this bland-sounding summary! They know that The Muppets Take Manhattan!

8. A confused young man starts to understand his life for the first time after he has an operation, only to have it slip away from him after his favorite animal dies.

9. Problems befall a pair of unicorns. Tom Cruise saves them and a princess from Tim Curry. Just about everybody (seeksadventure; aaronunicorn; ladydragonryder) knows Legend!

10. Smartass kid neglects his education, shamelessly manipulates the sympathy of his parents and those around him and, for his own self-gratification, triggers a series of events that results in the destruction of his best friend's father's priceless car. Without remorse. Despite this, everyone loves him. seeksadventure, aaronunicorn, and denisia know their eighties hit comedies when they hear about 'em. Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

11. Nice dead people try to scare living people from a house. Also, a decomposing pervert with an identity crisis falls madly in love with a teenage girl and tries to marry her. This time, everyone who guessed (seeksadventure, ladydragonryder, aaronunicorn, and denisia) was right -- it's Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetle-- *everyone tackles Dani to shut her up*

12. The world will be saved by a hot girl with weird name. With the assistance of a cab driver and a cross-dressing radio disc jockey. My Tech Support team (ladydragonryder, aaronunicorn) has got my back, they know this film is The Fifth Element.

13. Bicycle courier finds himself on the run from extremely ticked-off urbanites. He meets up with a woman keen on hacking people to death with a machete, a slightly mad taxi driver, and his quiet daughter, who take him on a road trip through the countryside. The four encounter a small group of soldiers living in a country mansion who intend to restart the human race. One of them wears a pink apron. seeksadventure and aaronunicorn know their horror...this is 28 Days Later.

14. Thanks to a discontinued sports car, a boy nearly commits incest with his mother after teaching his father how to use violence. All their lives improve as a result. Great Scott! This misleading (yet entirely true) summary is for Back to the Future, as seeksadventure, ladydragonryder, and aaronunicorn well know.

15. A boy and his talking stuffed animal travel through time and discuss politics. seeksadventure and aaronunicorn score yet again by correctly identifying Calvin and Hobbes!

16. Two brothers drive an RV to a strip club and encounter the supernatural. seeksadventure and aaronunicorn are on a roll! They both know this is From Dusk Til Dawn.

17. An angry black kid with a huge afro bitches about the current black celebrities. Also his brother is an 8-year-old gangsta. seeksadventure, aaronunicorn, and denisia know their angry black kid comic strips...or rather, strip. The Boondocks it is!

18. Coming of age / werewolf drama. Morbid friendless sisters feature in a study of the similarity between premenstrual tension and uncontrollably violent lycanthropic bloodlust. Werewolf fan seeksadventure knows that this is Ginger Snaps. And aaronunicorn, who seems to just be scary good at this kind of thing, also gets a point!

19. A book series about two teenage brothers and their father. They Fight Crime.

20. Good-looking but sleazy Elvis impersonator who lives with his mother gets into weird hijinks and gets beat up by nearly every woman he meets. This is 'Johnny Bravo' and clearly, aaronunicorn is a robot sent back in time to kill Sarah Connor, but he got distracted by all the delicious pop culture we have and dedicated his futuristic processor to the pursuit of entertainment instead of homocide. Go, Aaron!
