schizoauthoress: (A Spark in the Dark)
I missed two days of work because I was so sick. Yesterday, I kept having really bad coughing fits, so bad that I would cough for almost a minute solid, unable to expectorate any of the phlegm clogging my throat and lungs. Sometimes, I could cough up tiny bits, but nowhere near the mass that I can still feel sitting in my chest like a stone. My nose isn't runny, but it occassionally clogs up. I fall asleep and wake up half-breathless, and other times I would cough and cough -- partially lodging the phlegm in my thoat -- and gasp for air. I've been sweating awfully when I get wrapped up in clothing layers and blankets, but otherwise I'm really, really cold.

This was all made worse by the fact that the power went out at about 9 a.m. because of a thunderstorm. Lightning hit a big tree that fell and took out a power box. So it wasn't just our little apartment building, but everything -- traffic lights and street lights and a bunch of other apartment buildings. Anything without a generator. The Boyfriend and I played Scrabble by candlelight when we woke up in pitch darkness that night, and the neighbors basically socialized and partied in the back (where parking is).

Today, I am not going on long coughing fits, so I am able to do my job. I don't know if my stomach can handle anything but orange juice for lunch. Ugh. My head feels like it's disconnected from my body. I know my call stats are going to suffer.

Fingers crossed that the power is on at home, or will be by tomorrow.
