I don't have a single favorite line of poetry, not the way that my favorite poets write, but here is my favorite excerpt from Anne Sexton's Courage:

"Later,
if you faced the death of bombs and bullets
you did not do it with a banner,
you did it with only a hat to
cover your heart."
