Summary: Forging a friendship...
Routine
Dick is just fooling around in the workout area of the Batcave one day, when the Titans don't need him and Bruce is busy with something at Wayne Industries -- he has loud, cheerful music playing as he stretches out, and he's idly trying to remember how one of the Haly's non-aerialist acrobatic acts went. He goes into a one-handed handstand and bends his legs over his head, holding the pose for a moment before shifting into another one. Eventually, though, he gets bored with trying to remember and decides to just do whatever he feels like. He puts his free hand down and springs back up.
The music he's chosen goes through several songs as he does a few moves, stops, considers, and starts again. It's hard to think of stuff that doesn't call for two people, but he has fun working through different handbalancing tricks and somersaults.
It's only when Dick does a series of back handsprings that he realizes that he's no longer alone in the Cave. Jason is right behind him -- well, not literally right behind him, the kid would get clocked by his feet if that were the case -- silently imitating each of his moves. The redhead realizes that he's been spotted and smiles brightly before going into a back-in full out; Jason executes the twist and lands, then tucks one ankle behind the other and sweeps his right arm in front of himself as he bows.
"Nice," Dick says with a grin.
"Thanks," Jason smiles back. "Working on a new routine?"
"Nah," Dick replies, wiping one hand across his brow. "Haven't really needed to, you know."
"Oh yeah," Jason says, and looks down without further comment. Dick's not sure when, but he's gotten used to seeing Jason look cheerful, to the point that to see him so downcast seems... wrong.
Dick frowns, remembering his first days at the Manor -- realizing that the circus had gone on without him, that he was going to be staying in the same place for more than a few shows, that there weren't going to be any more shows -- and knowing that Jason is going through the same thing. Dick remembers when he realized that he wouldn't be seeing Zitka and Elinor anymore, how he cried. He remembers getting letters from Waldo and writing back (sometimes twice) before it started to hurt too much to hear about the life that left him behind.
"Jay," Dick waits until the younger acrobat looks up at him, "how good are you at acro?"
"Pretty good, I guess," Jason replies with a shrug.
"Let's work up something," he suggests, "even if it's just for Bruce and Alfred, they'll be totally impressed."
And Jason beams at him, so wonderfully happy at such a simple thing that Dick has to smile back.
Jason's a lot like him, but there will be one big difference... he'll have someone around who understands what it's like to have a completely different life replace the one he loved. And maybe they can bring a little bit of that old life into their new one. It's worth a shot.

I just... I needed something sweet and light and nice. Also...

(Yes the kid is blond, not redheaded, but still... look at that fantastic ass that Van Vynckt shows off 15 seconds in and tell me that doesn't remind you of Dick Grayson. XD)
