Party Crashers

"Alan..?"

Alan Scott just barely lifted his head from the pillow when he heard his lover call his name. He'd caught a red-eye flight last night in Gotham City in order to visit Sam Zhao, and spent most of the day sleeping to rid himself of jet lag. Sam had gone about his day in Hong Kong as usual, leaving Alan in the apartment.

Alan rolled over onto his back, still holding the pillow to his chest. "Wuzzat, Sam?"

"Oh." Sam was standing in the doorway of the bedroom now. He frowned slightly. "I didn't realize you were still sleeping. I'm sorry."

"S'okay," Alan said, though he almost immediately cut himself off with a yawn. "You need me?"

"Always," Sam replied. It took Alan a moment, but then he chuckled, letting the pillow drop free of his grip so he could spread his arms out.

"C'mere, yeah?"

Sam walked into the room, quiet on stocking feet, and crawled into bed next to Alan. Alan hummed happily and hugged Sam close. Sam kissed Alan's nearest bare shoulder and said, "It's nice to have you here."

"Tomorrow I'm still free," Alan mused. "I don't have to meet with the courier company until Wednesday. Did you want to do something?" At Sam's snicker, Alan amended, "Did you want to do something besides me, perhaps something that involves going out in public?"

Sam dropped another kiss to Alan's skin, this time at the base of his neck. "Mm, maybe. My family is planning a party for Friday."

"Oh?" Alan sounded interested, as he started to pet Sam's dark hair. "What's the occasion?"

"My cousin Xiaolan has gotten engaged. They're making a formal announcement."

"Is this the one who chided you for 'exotic tastes' when she met me?"

"That was my sister, Xiaodan. Xiaolan just laughed at us when she said it."

"Oh, right..." Alan blushed a little, embarrassed that he'd mixed up the two. Sam patted his cheek reassuringly.

"I'm sure my family is expecting me to show up with a woman on my arm, like the last time they had a social event." Sam rolled onto his side, propping himself up on one elbow. "But the invitation only says 'plus one', so... you wanna?"

Alan asked, "Be your 'plus one'?"

"Yes."

"To a social event being thrown by your family, which I assume will be attended by a lot of influential people? People important to your dad?" Alan pressed.

"Yes," Sam nodded.

"Your dad, who won't even look at me when we go over to your parents' house for dinner because I'm corrupting you? And I assume that he's going to be there as well."

Sam sounded amused. "Mm-hm."

"Sam, are you sure y--"

"Actually," Sam traced a fingertip along Alan's bare ribs, "if they're expecting someone in a dress like last time, maybe one of us ought to wear one."

Alan stared. "You want me to come to your cousin's engagement announcing party wearing a dress?"

"It would really piss off my dad." Sam said, with a wicked grin.

“This is without a doubt the stupidest plan you’ve ever had." Alan declared, an answering smile curving his lips. "Of course I’m in.”

"You don't get to choose the dress; I do." Sam declared. At the exaggeratedly offended look that Alan shot him, green eyes wide, Sam said sternly, "This is a formal event." He shook his finger at Alan. "I'm not letting you show up in some lime green and purple monstrosity."

Alan stuck his tongue out at Sam. "Maybe I won't wear a dress then."

"Oh no?"

"Maybe I'll just kiss you in front of your whole family." Alan smirked. "And grope your butt so they can't explain it away."

Sam laughed. "Dad might faint!"

"Well, that possibility makes me like this new plan even more..."
