"I can't believe it," Daria murmured numbly. She looked up at Quinn, who stared back looking just as shell-shocked as Daria felt. "I was sure that if we lost a parent before you got out of high school, it would be Dad."

Jane, seated beside Daria, gave a little snort. She patted Daria's hand supportively.

"Daria," Quinn said with exasperation (not holding the second syllable of Daria's name for nearly as long as she used to), "Mom's not dead."

Author: D.L.SchizoAuthoress
Rating: G
Spoilers: none
Prompt: "Give me a couple and I'll write a drabble about them as parents." An anonymous person on Tumblr prompted me with Cassandra/Jason Todd
Warnings: none
Word Count: 265
Summary: Jason and Cass's baby is here, and Jason has doubts.
Word of the Day: bosh, noun: Absurd or foolish talk; nonsense.
Note: Probably not part of the Heart!verse, that AU is pretty defunct, but it could be read as such.

Hesitant

"Come here." Cass said impatiently. But Jason still hung back, eyes fixed on the tiny bundle in Cass’s arms.

"But I…"

Cass sighed as Jason trailed off and gave her a helpless, overwhelmed look. “Nine months was not long enough to get used to this idea?”

"I don’t think nine years would be enough.”

"If it was going to take nine years," Cass replied dryly, "I would have made you carry him."

That startled a laugh out of Jason. He didn’t doubt it. Damian would probably help her, in that case. He took a few steps toward the hospital bed, feeling very awkward in the protective gown and gloves that the nurses had stuck him in.

He stared down at the tiny baby — pale skin new and especially pink, chubby little cheeks making his face almost comically round, and a dark tuft of hair atop his little head. The baby looked so delicate and small, even though Jason knew that he was of a healthy weight and size according to the doctor.

"I don’t… remember much… about my dad. I don’t know how to…"

"You read the books." Cass interrupted. "You read the books to me. We know enough to start.”

Jason reached out, laid a hand over Cass’s where it rested against their baby’s side. His little eyes fluttered open for a moment, but drifted closed again as the baby made a contented little sound.

"No matter what," Jason said solemnly, "we’re not naming him Richard."

"I was thinking ‘Bruce’." Cass replied, eyes sparkling with mischief.

"You wouldn’t.”

"He’d cry. So much."

"Hmmm…."

Spoilers: none, just this is a "Tana didn't die" AU
Prompt: "Give me a couple and I'll write a drabble about them as parents." Daggerpen on Tumblr prompted me with Kon/Tana
Warnings: none

Summary: No bed! says Kon and Tana's young child.
Word of the Day: ensconce, verb:
1. To settle securely or snugly.
2. To cover or shelter; hide securely.

Impasse

"Kamaka Moon, you come down from the ceiling this instant,” Tana Moon said sternly, craning her neck to look at her child. “It’s bedtime!”

Kamaka shook their head sharply and pressed more into the high corner of the room. “Not sleepy! No bed!” Despite the proclamation, Kamaka couldn’t stop a yawn.

"I am not going to ask you again." Tana folded her arms over her chest and tapped her foot once against the hardwood floor. "One."

"I would do what she tells you, Kam honey," Kon-El Moon warned as he walked into the living room where the confrontation was taking place, sounding quietly amused.

"Two!" Tana said, with another tap of her foot.

Kamaka glared down at their parents with a mighty pout on their little brown face. Kon quirked up an eyebrow at the fierce expression. He didn’t even need to glance at his wife to know that she was matching their child’s expression almost exactly.

And then Kamaka stuck their tongue out at both parents.

Tana sucked a breath in sharply through her nose. And Kon knew that Kamaka had pushed just a little too far. He reached his tactile telekinesis through the floor and up the wall, grabbing on to Kamaka and propelling the child downward as though on an invisible elevator. Kamaka squealed with surprise — but no fear — and their less developed TTK poked at the stronger kinetic force wrapped around them.

"I don’t know why you don’t want to sleep, Kamaka," Kon said, walking slowly toward the child, "but you know not to make rude faces to Mommy and Daddy."

Hearing the disappointment in Daddy’s voice made Kamaka’s defiant expression crumple. “S-sorry, Mommy! Sorry, Daddy!”

Tana approached too, her voice more gentle than before. “Why ‘no bed’, darling?”

"Monsters!"

"Oh, Kamaka," Kon said with a little laugh, as he scooped up their child and hugged them tight for a moment. "Don’t you know? There’s no monsters in our house. Mommy scares them away."

Author: D.L.SchizoAuthoress
Rating: PG-13
Prompt: from unit82717 on Tumblr - Cassandra Cain, young!Jason Todd, 'sister'
Spoilers: None (The timeline is mixed up a little because I'm ignoring certain events that pissed me off, but it's preboot DCU and taking place maybe a year after the last time we saw our heroes in canon.)
Warnings: blood, semi-graphic car accident, de-aging, kid!fluff
Word Count: 4076
Summary: Unexpected outcomes to a patrol leads to some familiar bonding, and maybe mended bridges.
Word of the Day: climacteric, noun: A critical period.

Safety In a Familiar Face

For a town that was "owned" by Batman and his family of crime-fighting vigilantes, Gotham City sure did seem to attract a lot of metahuman and magic-using villains. That was a thought that popped into Batgirl's mind as she and Black Bat chased a self-styled 'master of the mystical arts', as he drove away from his so-far-successful heist of the small Jacobi Museum.

"At this point," Batgirl commented dryly, as the two ladies leaped a gap between buildings to keep up with the speeding Honda Accord weaving through the light traffic of mid-evening -- and one would think a 'mystical master' would drive a better car, or even some sort of magical transport, "don't you think people would learn not to bring expensive or powerful artifacts to Gotham?"

"Why wouldn't they?" Black Bat replied with a grin, "Best security guards in the world!"

Batgirl gave a short laugh and conceded, "Good point."

Title: Zach and Eddie Meet the Phantasm, Part One
Author: D.L.SchizoAuthoress
Rating: PG-13
Spoilers: based on some dialogue from Teen Titans v3 #39 -- vague ones for '52' as dealing with the Teen Titans.
Warnings: rambling speculation, Eddie's foul mouth
Prompt/Fill: Redtha on Tumblr made me start thinking about both canon and non-canon versions of Eddie and Zach getting stuck in New Azarath for two weeks, during the "missing year" after Infinite Crisis. Here's part one of the more canon version.
Word Count: 1990
Summary: Eddie was just trying to figure out his powers. Zach didn't ask to come along.
Word of the Day: terpsichorean noun: A dancer.

Note: This story takes place around Week 32 of 52. (see below for some rambles) And again, "Myron Cray" is my fan-name for Molecule, since he was never given a real name in canon.

According to the wiki, Amon Tomaz gets his Osiris powers during Week 23 of the missing year, then joins the Teen Titans (because Captain Marvel Junior vouches for him, shown in Week 32), and there's a disastrous confrontation with the Suicide Squad in Week 34. One day I'll sit down and try to figure out the revolving door of membership that was OYL Teen Titans but today is not that day.

Zach and Eddie Meet the Phantasm
